On a Belgrade camp lot, the shoreland setback usually decides where the garage goes, so we locate that line before sketching a single wall. Pulling the building up toward the road keeps it legal, shortens the stretch you plow, and leaves the view from the camp porch open to the lake.
A separate building also lets us ignore the camp's old foundation. Many camps here rest on seasonal piers or stacked block that could never carry a year-round addition, so a garage on its own frost-depth footings is the cleaner path, with compacted gravel to the doors and no concrete apron to heave.
